"To the untrained eye Roger’s work is very beautiful with a delicacy of handling and gentle harmonies of colour. To the trained eye they are remarkable. Their technical virtuosity is superb and often involved months of painstaking work. These are the works of a meticulous and musical brain. There are only 2 or 3 other people in the world capable of the intricacy of traditional techniques that Roger had mastered.

However, whereas others deployed their skills to make copies, Roger’s work is outstanding for it’s originality. His vast knowledge of design history far from inhibiting him, subtly informed an inventive and playful use of motifs executed with deceptively effortless draughtsmanship.
